Flame to Function: Creative ways to reuse your candle jars
There’s something a little magical about the glow of a candle—the soft light, the subtle fragrance, the calming atmosphere it brings to a room. But what happens when the wax has burned down and all that’s left is an empty jar too good to toss? Don’t throw it away just yet! With a little creativity, those candle jars can have a second life as stylish and functional items around your home.
How to clean the jar
First you'll want to clean your candle jar. We suggest boiling the kettle and placing your candle inside a deep, heat proof container that will allow hot water to surround it. The hot water will melt residual wax inside the jar enough to allow you to simply wipe it with paper towel. Remove as much residual wax as you can before popping in the dishwasher.
Importantly, do not pour melted wax down the sink, this will cause a blockage.
Now, here are some of our favorite ways to reuse candle jars:
1. Chic Bathroom Storage
Candle jars make perfect holders for cotton balls, cotton swabs, bath salts, or even hair ties. Our clear glass with wooden lids jars look modern and clean on a bathroom vanity.
2. Mini Planters
Succulents and small houseplants love a cozy home—and a repurposed candle jar is just the right size. Add a few pebbles to the bottom for drainage, fill with soil, and plant your favorite greenery. They look especially cute lined up on a windowsill or shelf.
3. Desk Organizers
Tidy up your workspace by using old candle jars to hold pens, pencils, paperclips, or even scissors. Match jars of the same style together for a cohesive and curated desk aesthetic.
4. Makeup Brush or Toothbrush Holders
Upgrade your vanity or bathroom counter with a candle jar that holds your makeup brushes or toothbrushes. It’s a simple way to add a touch of personality and organization without buying anything new.
5. Kitchen Helpers
Use old jars to store herbs, loose tea, sugar, salt, or even reusable straws. If the lid is still intact, even better! Just give them a thorough clean, and you’ve got a practical and stylish storage solution.
6. Jewelry Catch-All
Place a jar near your bedside or sink to keep rings, earrings, or hairpins safe while you sleep or wash your hands. You can even line the bottom with velvet or a decorative fabric for an extra luxe touch.
7. Craft Supply Storage
Whether you're into beading, painting, sewing, or scrapbooking, small jars are ideal for organizing buttons, threads, washi tapes, or other small supplies. Label them for easy access and a Pinterest-worthy craft corner.
8. Candle Refill
We can refill your candle! Just drop it off to us, or we can swap it over next time we deliver your order (for local delivery only, not available when couriered).
9. Home Décor Accents
Fill jars with fairy lights, dried flowers, or seasonal items like pinecones or mini ornaments. Place them on shelves, mantels, or entry tables for a subtle decorative touch that changes with the seasons.
10. Gift Containers
Repurposed candle jars make charming containers for homemade gifts—think bath salts, small baked goods, or layered hot cocoa mix. Wrap with twine, add a tag, and voilà: a thoughtful gift with eco-conscious flair.
So next time you burn through your favorite candle, take a second look at the jar before tossing it. With a little imagination, it might just become your new favorite storage hack—or even a tiny piece of home décor with a story to tell.
